Maternity
Maternity Reflexology
In Maternity Reflexology the practitioner uses more relaxing techniques to calm mother and baby and gives direct attention to the aches and pains commonly associated with pregnancy. A treatment may include an energetic balancing of the reflexology endocrine zones for the overall mental and physical well-being of both baby and mother.
During pregnancy Reflexology may be helpful for:-
- Oedema
- Pelvic Pain
- Back Pain and joint pain
- Blood Pressure issues
- Stress and Anxiety
- Headaches
- Nausea and heartburn
It has also been said anecdotally to shorten labour time and feels wonderful for the new mother or mother-to-be, while providing a healing sense of touch. Ideally weekly or fortnightly sessions are recommended, or at least 6 sessions throughout the pregnancy.
Pre-conceptual Reflexology
Before conception both partners may benefit from having Reflexology treatments. These may help to maintain a healthy body and achieve optimum conditions for conceiving and carrying a healthy baby. Reflexology may help to bring about physical and emotional balance in preparation for pregnancy and clients say that it can help with conditions such as irregular menstrual cycle and hormonal imbalances. It may help to support individuals who are undergoing medical interventions for fertility issues.
The Post-natal Period
After the baby is born, life undergoes huge changes for the new parents, both of whom can benefit from Reflexology treatments. The mother in particular can benefit from treatments for general well-being and to help restore the body to a non-pregnant state. Some gentle Reflexology techniques may also be helpful for the baby.
Sometimes finding the time for oneself can be challenging so in these circumstances Vertical Reflex Therapy can be useful. VRT is an effective five-minute treatment which can be used in its own right where time is at a premium. Alternatively, it can be used as an adjunct to a conventional Reflexology treatment.
Thai Yoga Massage for Pregnancy
Thai Yoga Massage is an ancient system of healing that uses the energy lines of the body. The practitioner applies pressure to these energy lines using palms, thumbs, forearms and even the feet,. It also involves gentle stretching and manipulation of the joints. The massage takes place on a futon on the floor with the receiver in loose, comfortable clothing. However, Thai Yoga Massage is more than a physical therapy—it is also beneficial emotionally and works to balance and harmonise the entire body.
Thai Yoga Massage can be easily and safely adapted for treatments throughout pregnancy. In late pregnancy the entire massage can be carried out comfortably with the mother-to-be in side-lying position. Beanbags or cushions are use to support the client for working the energy lines of the back and for a wonderfully relaxing face massage.
In pregnancy Thai Yoga Massage may help:
- Acheing, hips, legs, neck and shoulders
- Back pain
- Cramps in calf muscles
- Sinus congestion and headaches
- Blood pressure issues
- Swelling in hands and ankles
- Aching feet
